The week in review August 28-September 3

This week's big story is, of course, the devastation in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast caused by Katrina ... and the government. On the bright side, several reports of residents fending off looters and restoring order, but the entire fiasco can be summed up by Longnecker's excellent commentary "Looting: Where are the gunnies?". [" the murder, mayhem, bedlam and rampant crime is an example of citizen disarmament. Only this time, the guns of defense have been submerged, floated away or otherwise irretrievable. The power of the people to participate in their own defense has been drowned"] An object lesson for us all.

Meanwhile, stories of armed citizens defending themselves and their property continue to pour in from the rest of the country ... California, North Carolina, New Mexico, West Virginia, Washington, New Jersey, Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Utah and Texas ...while the "gov't thugs of the week" award goes to ... the Canadian cops who are 'ticked off' by kids wearing "Be Armed' T-shirts ... and are seizing the shirts. For an excellent commentary on armed self-defense, read 'How often do Americans use guns for defensive purposes?'

Til next week
