Looting: Where are the gunnies?
Mens News Daily
John Longnecker

"New Orleans is the perfect case study to appreciate what can happen – what does happen – when armed resistance and civilian authority in general are neutralized as they have been with the flood which separates the citizens from their armed protection. Violent predators then have nothing to fear from unarmed citizens. And that’s the key. Criminals do not fear police, but they do fear armed citizens. .... Gunnies are Gun Owners. Gunnies are the Liberty Nuts who like to exercise all of their civil rights in the Bill of Rights. Since the beginning of the Republic, citizen involvement has been the secret to everything from day to day functioning to resistance to attack to way of life. Things run smoothly in self-governance. Even when disaster strikes. ... New Orleans is not a matter of looting - it is in a condition of complete anarchy. But it is much more of an example than that: the murder, mayhem, bedlam and rampant crime is an example of citizen disarmament. Only this time, the guns of defense have been submerged, floated away or otherwise irretrievable. The power of the people to participate in their own defense has been drowned." (09/02/05).

How often do Americans use guns for defensive purposes?
World Net Daily
Laurence Elder

"Forty-six-year-old Joyce Cordoba stood behind the deli counter while working at a Wal-Mart in Albuquerque, N.M. Suddenly, her ex-husband – against whom Ms. Cordoba had a restraining order – showed up, jumped over the deli counter, and began stabbing Ms. Cordoba. Due Moore, a 72-year-old Wal-Mart customer, witnessed the violent attack. Moore, legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon, pulled out his gun, and shot and killed the ex-husband. Ms. Cordoba survived the brutal attack and is recovering from her wounds. This raises a question. How often do Americans use guns for defensive purposes?" (09/01/05)

Mercury News

"A West San Jose homeowner shot and killed a man who broke into his house late Thursday and assaulted him, according to San Jose police.Sgt. Nick Muyo said the homeowner was released pending a review of the case .... Homicide detectives were satisfied with that account after interviewing the unidentified 60-year-old homeowner for several hours.Muyo said the 38-year-old dead suspect, whose name was not immediately available, had been in an argument outside with another adult who lives in the house. That man came inside and closed the door behind him, apparently seeking to avoid a physical fight. It didn't work. 'The suspect breaks the door down and confronts the resident. The homeowner hears the commotion and comes downstairs with a weapon and gets assaulted,'' Muyo said. When the man hit him again, Muyo said, the homeowner shot the intruder." A nation of wimps
Sierra Times
Michael Cook

"You must ask yourself if we will stand by and surrender our weapons when the time comes, or will we fight. I’m not talking about a shooting war; I’m talking about demanding that our government do what is right and Constitutional. You and I have seen them bend to public will before when the pressure is put on. Now many times they bend to pressure by minority groups and those with the most money. We don’t even see the Republicans who are in a majority standing up to the Democrats who are not. When will they tell them to take a hike and do the right thing? They all seem to be afraid of the media and what will happen if they fight this minority of people who are attempting to sway public opinion." (09/01/05)

Canada: Ontario to do blitz inspections of gun shops, ask for guns to be turned in
940 News

"The Ontario government and Toronto Police Service are working together to get more guns off the streets of the province's biggest city. Toronto has seen a deadly spate of gun violence this summer. Attorney General Michael Bryant says there will be 'blitz' inspections of gun businesses to ensure they're storing their guns safely. Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair says half the illegal guns on the city's streets come from robberies of gun shops or gun owners. Bryant says the province and various police forces will hold a gun amnesty where people can turn in any illegal guns or guns they feel they can't store safely. But he doesn't know yet when that will start or which police forces will take part." (09/02/05)
