The week in review (August 14-19)
The weekly e-mail version of 2AM News Weekly Digest just went out, if you'd like to subscribe go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/secondamendmentnewsdigest
Self defense stories this week from California, Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and South Africa, while victims disarmers in Michigan start a "tip line to fight illegal guns", gun grabbing LEOs in Kansas "join forces to fight gun crime" (by disarming victims, of course) and gun thug cops in California plan a "crackdown" on illegal gun transfers ... targeting the 2 "high crime areas" that are ... you guessed it, right next to police stations.
In New Mexico, university mascot Pistol Pete has been disarmed ... he'll now get to carry a lariot. In South Africa, gun owners are charged with negligence if their firearms are stolen ... even if the firearm was in a locked safe ... and, in Canada, as the psychotic gun grabber Mayor of Toronto unveils plans to set up a "central depot" for homeowners to store their guns ( "There's no reason to own a gun in Toronto ", he says) and Canadian politicians "express alarm about a rising tide of guns smuggled from the United States, statistics suggest federal border guards are seizing fewer firearms than in previous years". And the most appalling story of all this week , in Ohio, a Vietnam veteran is forced to register gun he keeps as reminder of service.
On the bright side, in North Carolina a bill encourages domestic abuse victims to buy guns, and, in Virginia, "The Nelson Board of Supervisors re-adopted the noise ordinance, adding an exemption that places no restrictions on 'sounds generated from the discharge of firearms,' except at commercial sport-shooting ranges."
Also on the bright side, the RRND news feed SHOULD be up and running again this week ... meanwhile, keep checking here for daily updates. When the RRND feed is fixed and we can move back over to the 2AM News site, I'll post an announcement here.
Til next week
